House System

Our House system engenders mixing freely across the year groups and older children caring for the younger ones.

On entry into the Prep School children are assigned to one of the four Houses: Drake, Marlborough, Nelson and Wellington. As well as a sense of community and belonging the children benefit enormously from offering support to younger pupils and being mentored by older pupils, developing their individual and collective responsibility.

Each House has a Housemaster/mistress to oversee the running of the House and they are supported by at least two other members of the Brambletye staff. In addition each House appoints at least one House Commander from Year 8, who acts as a representative for the House and who also helps to coordinate House teams and to organise the House duty teams. Teamwork is very much the order of the day and the many various inter-house competitions (House Shout, cross country, assault course, general knowledge quiz, sport, orienteering, to name a few) are fought over enthusiastically. Sports Day is one of the highlights of the House year, when all children participate in a variety of events, the finale of which is the whole school inter house relay race! – an event of epic proportions!
