Nursery Learning

Core Education

A day in the life of a Nursery child is based around safe and secure routines which help the children to feel calm and settled, with time for children to initiate and explore their own interests and passions as well as time for small groups to work with a member of the Nursery team.  Our skilled practitioners weave topics which are based on the interests of the children in their groups, whilst introducing new ideas, concepts and the wider world such as global festivals and celebrations.  Drawing on key research into early childhood and learning, our children have the freedom to make choices and pursue lines of enquiry, supported by team members who scaffold their learning and enhance the children’s next steps.

The ‘Prime Areas’ of communication and language, physical development and personal, social and emotional development underpin all learning and are supported through play, conversations, games and activities.  The subjects of Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts are woven around the prime areas, providing a broad and imaginative curriculum.

Specialist Practitioners

We have a wealth of specialist teachers who work with our Nursery children on a weekly basis, teaching PE, music, a modern foreign language and swimming.  These greatly enhance the Nursery day and introduce children to teachers they will meet again as they move through the school.

Outdoor Learning

At Brambletye, we live by the old saying that ‘There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing’!  With every child kitted out with waterproof trousers, coats and wellies, Nursery can be found having daily time outside enjoying the benefits of their own dedicated play area, as well as making the most of our wonderful 140 acre site for ‘Wilder Learning’ . As well as our School in the Woods Forest School sessions, Nursery children enjoy the flexibility of playing inside and outside morning and afternoon, with our outside areas resourced to promote large scale exploration, development of gross motor skills, connection to nature and freedom to make choices and develop their social world.
