Many congratulations to Sonya, who has been awarded an Art Scholarship to Rugby School.
Following a rigorous and challenging process of preparation, starting with the submission of a digital portfolio, followed by an interview where she spoke about her beautiful work and the artists who have inspired her journey, and concluding with a demanding observational drawing test, Sonya’s efforts and skills as a hyper-realist artist have been rightly recognised by this award.
Sonya is an example to all young artists currently developing through the ‘H’ block. She is genuine, honest, unafraid to make mistakes, and above all else, she works hard, plays hard, and is exceptionally kind to everyone.
In addition, Sonya is the overall winner of the Shrewsbury National Art Competition, a further testament to her remarkable talent. She is a credit to the creative education programme we deliver here at Brambletye.
This is what the Head of Art at Rugby School had to say:
“Sonya presented a very strong portfolio, demonstrating skills across a wide range of media and an ability to develop ideas as well as observe carefully from a range of sources. Her interest in using art media to express ideas came across clearly in the interview, with her drawing work seen as part of a wider process and not just as an end in itself. Sonya’s developmental drawing from the scholarship assessment was particularly engaging; her selection of details and layered rendering in coloured pencil, with shapes offset against one another, showed an exciting level of independence. Sonya presented herself as a committed and determined art student, and I am happy to recommend her for an Art Scholarship at Rugby School.”
Well done, Sonya. Mr H
