Many congratulations to Nyamekye, who has been awarded an Academic Scholarship and an Art Scholarship to Sevenoaks.

This is a marvellous achievement and a testament to the dedication and hard work she has demonstrated over the past few years.

Nyamekye is a deep thinker, always willing to question and critically analyse the information presented to her. She showed particular strength in literary subjects and responded confidently and thoughtfully to unfamiliar scenarios in the general paper.

From the outset, Nyamekye understood that success in an Academic Scholarship—particularly to a school as competitive as Sevenoaks—would require not only strong natural ability but also a tremendous amount of enthusiastic hard work.

Congratulations, Nyamekye! Mr Gomm.

Nyamekye’s chosen module, which played a key role in her success in winning an Art Scholarship to Sevenoaks, was a self-portrait series executed with stunning creativity. Her starting point was a photorealistic ‘selfie’, created using a range of pencils, a blender, and an eraser on cartridge paper.

She then developed the image into a final realisation using a circular grid to distort the portrait—manipulating its shape, proportion, and context. Inspired by the work of Kenyan artist Michael Armitage, Nyamekye went on to produce a series of supporting portraits in acrylics, experimenting with beautiful surface textures to capture the unique personality of each sitter.

I warmly congratulate Nyamekye on this outstanding achievement, which I am confident she will continue to embrace wholeheartedly upon her arrival at Sevenoaks in September. Mr H.
