Religious Studies

Chapel services and other religious instruction play a central role in our lives at Brambletye. However all pupils study RS as part of their curriculum and all will be expected to sit the RS Common Entrance paper in their final term. Every pupil in Year 5 and above receives a Good News Bible to assist them with their studies.

Pupils study the Old and New Testament with a particular focus on the life of Jesus and the Gospels. However, considerable emphasis is also placed on comparative religion and contemporary issues. In Year 5, for example, pupils will learn about Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism. In Years 7 and 8 the pupils apply their Bible knowledge to contemporary situations. For instance, pupils may be asked which of the Ten Commandments have the most relevance in the 21st century. They are also asked to consider moral dilemmas such as ‘Is it ever acceptable to tell a lie?’

Pupils sitting senior school scholarships will either be given a separate RS paper or will be tested on elements of the RS syllabus in a General Paper.
