Year 6 Science Visit

Year 6 visit Sevenoaks Science Week

On Tuesday 18th January Year 6 took part in Sevenoaks Science Week. The lecture they attended was given by the Science museum outreach team.

An enormous Tesla coil was demonstrated which could generate voltages of 250000v. It could give off big sparks

Nikola Tesla invented the coil to try to realise the dream of wireless electricity. A Brambletye pupil was asked to help demonstrate this by holding a fluorescent tube near the tesla coil, it glowed

As she walked further from the coil we could see the tube still glowing thus demonstrating wireless electricity

We also saw a demonstration of a Faraday cage in operation protecting a mobile phone. It can also be used to protect humans as can be seen on this You Tube clips
