Real science is all about asking questions and designing experiments to find out the answers. Here at Brambletye we have two brand new purpose built labs with their own IT suite and prep room. We believe in practical science and these facilities help us to deliver a science curriculum packed with experiments and investigations.
It is Science department policy to do as much as possible in a practical way. This helps to ensure good understanding and therefore a transferability and application of skills and knowledge. I consider each topic covered to be a part of a jigsaw. We give the students more and more pieces of the jigsaw until children achieve insight as they put the pieces together and see the bigger picture. It is hoped that students will have reached this stage by the time they leave Brambletye but if not they will still be able to pass Common Entrance using the individual jigsaw pieces. Those at an advanced level will realise that the big picture they have is but a small piece in the next jigsaw.
