Baynham, John: |
our oldest Sidcup Place survivor, aged 97 years, died in November 2008. The Memorial Service was held at Chichester Cathedral.

Troughton, James (Captain): |
has three sons, one daughter and 12 grandchildren. He and Georgina have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversay.

Whitestone, Peter: |
has three daughters, one of whom is married to an old Brambletye boy, Peter Cobley. They are married and live in different countries, allowing Peter and his wife, Sally, to travel to Luxembourg, the Maldives and England.

presently has a great-niece in the School. He was an Officer in the King’s Own Royal Regiment and spent 12 years in the 2nd KEO Gurkha Rifles in the Far East.He won the M.C. in Borneo, retired in 1965 and ran a small specialist roofing company.

his wife, Sara Jayne, was awarded the OBE last year for services to the Hospitality Industry. Richard is a wine merchant with Sterling Wine Agencies Limited in London.

| 1951 |
Tony Ward: |
left Brambletye in 1951, went into the Army via Sandhurst and left Army as Colonel in 1993 to become Chief Executive of a large charity looking after the elderly poor. His two sons also attended Brambletye: Toby - who went on to Shiplake and is now Head of Production for a major TV company. Giles - who went onto Harrow - St John’s, Cambridge - Law in the City and then changed to Economics via a Masters at Sydney, Australia and a PhD at Minnesota University USA. He is now working in the Treasury.

Hammersley, David: |
went to Clayesmore School after Brambletye, and then on to Australia to work on large sheep stations in the South for nine years. He married Helen in 1967 and then qualified as a Chartered Surveyor specialising in New South Wales farms. He retired in 2000 and has two children (his daughter, Kim, was a Gap Student in 1991 and has three daughters) and six grandchildren. He and his wife, Helen, play tennis each week and they keep bees.

Greaves, Jon: |
has been married for over 40 years. They have two children and four grandchildren. He owned a fairly large provincial advertising agency for thirty years. He sails, shoots, plays tennis and golf.

| Spicer, Christopher: |
retired in 2005 after 25 years working for the Duke of Grafton’s estate in Suffolk. He is now on the St. Edmundsbury Council. He does voluntary work for the Diocese and is a busy, working trustee for the Suffolk historic churches.

sold his office interior business in 1993. He and his wife live part of the year in Denver, where they have a house near their younger son and his family. They also have a bolthole near Oxford. He still plays tennis, golf and he skies. He is also an Honorary Steward at Wimbledon.

after a full career in the Royal Marines, has been active in the charity sector and is now an Independent member of the Hertfordshire Police Authority. He has three sons and a daughter plus two step-daughters and three grandchildren.

edited a book edited called ‘Letters of Ralph Vaughan Williams 1895-1958’ which was published in August 2008.

Bracegirdle, Nicolas:

works for the MOD after a career in the RN and the RNR. He was Deputy Weapons Engineer on HMS Antrim in the Falklands. He has spent the last six years managing a high tech buoy for the US Navy aboard USS Georgia. Married to Caroline, they have 2 daughters and a 28 foot motor-sailor. He has been awarded the MBE.

having acquired a MBA late in his career, William is busy winding his Management Consultancy business towards retirement. He is Chairman of the Parish Council and is heavily involved in other local activities. He plays golf, tennis and shows dogs at Championship shows. He has been married for 38 years and they have two children. |

Norman, Chris: |
died on February 5th 2008. During the late sixties, he taught at Brambletye before leaving to teach briefly at Clifton College, Bristol but returned to teach and marry the Brambletye Sister/Head Matron, Enid. They had originally met here, kept in touch and subsequently were married in 1972. Chris taught History and was very keen on cricket. When Brambletye bought Sheridan House, our first Pre-Prep, towards the end of the seventies, Chris ran it for several years. He had a spell as Deputy Head at Holmbury St. Mary and then went on to teach at Rosehill before retiring due to illness.

is Managing Director of John Clegg Consultancy Ltd. He is also Vice Chair of the Central Scotland Forest Trust which is the leading organisation in the creation of the forest between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and Falkirk and Lanark. |

spent all his working life in the Hotel business culminating in being General Manager at the Ritz in London. He was Director of London’s oldest restaurant, Rules.

is on board the Royal Fleet Auxiliary’s ship, Fort Victoria. He is now Second Officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and was awarded a NATO medal for service in the former Yugoslavia, a General Service Medal and an Operations Service Medal. He is married with three children.

has been MP for Wealden since 2001. He has also been Shadow Minister for Young People since 2002 and Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party since 2003. He is married and has two sons.

has been a freelance journalist and public relations consultant for the last 20 years, working primarily in the field of technology. He currently runs his own online PR/ Internet consultancy. |

Gillies, Andy: |
returned to help as a student teacher with the Leavers in 1978/79/80. Owen Slot, chief sportswriter of The Times, and Andrew Harding, BBC Asia Correspondent were in his first group of leavers and he probably oversaw their first journalistic efforts in a school newspaper. He has met both since in his own broadcasting career, which started first in commercial radio. He now works for BBC Network Radio Sport, based in Scotland, and covering mainly football and rugby for Radio 5 Live. He worked on the Rugby World Cup. He has 3 children who go to Morrison's Academy in Crieff in Scotland. His brother Duncan (1967) lives in London and works in a West End theatre.

He has been seen in ‘Atonement’ alongside Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. He recently took a leading role as a former Detective Inspector in the second 'Mis Marple' murder mystery opposite Julia McKenzie. |

It is with enormous sadness that we report that Tom was killed by a street robber in Lucerne in Switzerland in the early hours of October 25th 2008. He will be greatly missed by a huge circle of friends in this country and in Switzerland where he played rugby for the Lucerne Rugby Club for three years. His funeral was at All Saints in Fulham last November where the church was packed with ovwer 250 people celebrating a young life well lived and so much appreciated.As a great friend said: ‘He was loved by everybody because he loved everybody’.

When he played, it was at left back for his house as he did for the Brambletye 3rds in 1997. He thanks CHT for his Latin lessons as he took GCSE and got a high A. ‘Not only was it beneficial on a grades basis but also for my further tuition in French, Italian and to some extent English GCSEs. Now I know why you learn Latin! It teaches you how to learn other subjects, not just languages!’ He continued his Fencing and, when not injured, challenged for a first team place (no mean feat when it consists of only 3 people) also being awarded his third ever set of colours. He is studying for a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University. |
