Countdown to the Olympics

On Saturday evening, Richard Leman, Olympic Gold Medallist and Brambletye parent, gave a talk to Brambletye pupils and friends.

He gave a brief history of the modern Olympics and the ethos behind them.  This included an explanation of why Mandeville and Wenlock are the names of the two mascots for London 2012.  Richard gave an insight into what it is like to compete in the Olympics and the story of the successes of the two teams that he played for in 1984 and 1988 that won Bronze and Gold respectively. 

Richard finished off with a look at the 2012 games and how this enourmous event, the 'Greatest Show on Earth', is being organised in London and some of the logistical issues that have to be overcome.

The talk was inspiring for pupils and Richard encouraged the children at Brambletye to carpe diem or seize the day: try your hardest and really have a go at being the best at whatever it is that you are good at whether academic, sport, music or drama.  If only there had been more time ...
