The weather station is to be found on the top of the cylindrical stairwell of The Blencowe Centre.
Our weather station is a Rainwise WS-2000 MkIII wireless station. It has a solar panel to supply it with electricity and it transmits the data live to a computer in the Geography Room. From here the data is sent out onto the web and to a display screen in the Geography Room.
The weather station collects temperature, humidity, air pressure, rainfall, wind speed, wind direction and wind chill. The data is stored on the weather computer and daily, weekly, monthly and annual means, maximums and minimums are calculated as well as trends.
The weather station collects information all day every day and the screen in the Geography Room is updated every second from the weather station. The data from the weather computer is exported to the web every 5 minutes.
We are also now linked to Weather Underground (see right).
